It’s been a few months since we checked in with you about the ReWild Mission Bay campaign. It’s been longer since we asked something of you, our ReWild supporters.
We could use the ReWild Coalition‘s support this Wednesday, March 11, at 8 a.m. outside City Hall in Civic Center Plaza at 202 West C St. for a media event ahead of the city’s monthly Budget Committee meeting, which gets underway at 9 a.m. the morning of the 11th.
A few weeks ago, we received great news as five of our nine San Diego City Councilmembers requested funding from Mayor Faulconer in their annual budget requests for inclusion of the Wildest proposal in the De Anza EIR. Now we need the mayor to follow through and approve that funding.
We want to say thank you to the councilmembers that prioritized Wildest, and remind them to champion Wildest as they work with Mayor Fauconer and his staff to ensure funding is committed to fully evaluate the Wildest restoration proposal at the same level of attention and detail as the city’s “preferred alternative” for revitalizing the northeast corner of Mission Bay.
Wear your ReWild Mission Bay shirt and join us at Civic Center Plaza on Wednesday, March 11, at 8 a.m. as we meet with members of the press and make our case for funding consideration of Wildest.
For our media event, we expect to hear remarks from several of our ReWild Coalition leaders, including:
- Andrew Meyer, San Diego Audubon
- Dan McKirnan, Environmental Health Coalition (EHC)
- Anahí Méndez, Society for the Advancement of Chicano and Native American Students (SACNAS)
- Ryan Karslgodt, Unite Here! Local 30
- Rebecca Loveless, Kumeyaay Preservation Heritage Committee
- Cody Petterson, San Diego Sierra Club
Afterwards, join us as we attend the Budget Committee meeting at 9 a.m. on the 12th floor of City Hall at 202 West C St.
Join us, rain or shine, this Wednesday, March 11, at 8 a.m. outside City Hall at Civic Center Plaza, and wear your ReWild Mission Bay shirt as we make our case to media.
If you don’t wish to make remarks to the Budget Committee on behalf of ReWild during public testimony, consider ceding your time another one of our speakers – and if you need a shirt, we’ll have a few extras on-site the morning of the event. See you then.
